It’s been buzzing in the gaming community that Warner Bros has pulled the plug on an expansion for “Hogwarts Legacy.” According to Bloomberg, this expansion was originally slated to launch alongside a special Definitive Edition of the beloved Harry Potter-themed action RPG. Players were looking forward to fresh narratives, but it seems things didn’t quite pan out.
The decision to scrap the project reportedly came down to doubts about whether the new content justified the proposed price tag. Avalanche Software, the studio behind the original game, was working on this expansion in collaboration with Rocksteady, known for their expertise in the gaming industry. Interestingly, it seems Avalanche is also hard at work on a follow-up to “Hogwarts Legacy.”
Rocksteady, on the other hand, has faced some setbacks lately. They recently had to lay off some staff after deciding to halt support for the upcoming “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” scheduled for a 2024 release.
It’s worth noting that there have been challenges within Warner Bros’ gaming division. The company admitted last year that its gaming sector wasn’t meeting expectations and faced financial write-offs, including a significant $200 million for “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.” They’ve also shuttered three studios recently, Monolith being one of them, and saw the departure of their long-serving leader, David Haddad.
Overall, the company seems to be navigating a period of transition and recalibration, aiming to find a stronger footing in the ever-evolving gaming landscape.
