Steel Wool Studios has created quite a buzz with the announcement of the release date for “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic.” Scheduled to launch on June 13th, it will be available for both PS5 and PC players. What’s got everyone talking, though, is the unexpected absence of PSVR 2 in their recent updates—despite earlier demonstrations.
If you rolled into PAX West 2024, you might have snagged a demo that hinted at a PSVR 2 experience. At the time, fans were eagerly looking forward to a blend of VR and standard gameplay from this versatile studio.
Steel Wool Studios isn’t new to the VR scene. Backed early on by a $5 million boost from HTC in 2016, they’ve brought to life several VR hits since starting out in 2012. Names like “Hello Neighbor Search and Rescue,” and of course, the popular “FNAF: Help Wanted” series, prove they know their way around immersive gaming.
However, the recent change in their marketing strategy for “FNAF: Secret of the Mimic” has sparked a lot of speculation. References to PSVR 2 have vanished from promotional materials, including the PlayStation Store page that once listed optional VR support. Even a February 12th PlayStation post hinting at VR features has been quietly removed.
As of now, Steel Wool Studios remains tight-lipped about any potential PSVR 2 compatibility. There’s also curiosity swirling around whether PC versions—soon available on Epic Games Store and Steam—will get VR functionality.
We’ve reached out for official word from the studio but are still awaiting their response. Rest assured, we’ll keep you in the loop if there’s a shift or reveal of a new release strategy.
In “FNAF: Secret of the Mimic,” players find themselves exploring the eerie corridors of Murray’s Costume Manor. You’re on the hunt for answers left by Edwin Murray, the mysterious mind behind it all. At the heart of the mystery is the Mimic, an ambitious prototype that can morph into anything, embodying even your darkest fears.
Armed with a mix of raw nerve, a handful of gadgets, and a partially redacted briefing, players will undertake the task of reclaiming Fazbear’s coveted prototype tech. All while dodging ambiguous clues and a creepy shadow intent on keeping visitors at bay.
