Resident Evil is a cherished name in the PlayStation world, adored by many who love the survival horror genre. It’s almost become a staple of Sony’s gaming legacy. So, whenever there’s buzz about new native ports for the latest consoles, fans naturally get excited—even if these ports aren’t from the series’ most popular titles.
### Resident Evil 5 and 6 are Coming to PS5
Recently, new ESRB ratings surfaced, hinting at upcoming releases for Resident Evil 5 and 6. Initially, the listings only mentioned the Xbox Series of consoles. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if these games also find a home on the PS5.
Fans rooting for a full remake of Resident Evil 5 might want to temper their expectations. Given how close the dates of the ratings are to each other, it’s pretty clear these releases are just ports. Typically, these ports don’t boast a lot of new features compared to their predecessors. At best, we might see an upgrade in resolution, taking advantage of the PS5’s enhanced capabilities.
Although Resident Evil 5 and 6 are listed on the PlayStation Store, they are actually the PS4 versions available for download, priced at a mere $4.99, and playable on the PS5.
Resident Evil 5 hit the gaming scene back in 2009, earning a solid reputation and impressive reviews. On Metacritic, it has an average score of 83 based on 91 critic reviews. Then came Resident Evil 6 in 2012, a more controversial chapter in the series with a Metacritic score of 67 from 71 critic reviews, often dubbed the least favored among the mainline entries.
