Treyarch has pulled back the curtain on "Shattered Veil," the eagerly awaited new Zombies map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Fans will be thrilled to know they’ll be able to dive into the chaos a bit sooner than initially planned.
Originally, the Season 3 content for Black Ops 6, encompassing both multiplayer and Zombies, was pushed back to April 3. However, Activision has now decided to roll out this update a day earlier, on April 2. That said, if you’re keeping an eye out for the return of Verdansk in Call of Duty: Warzone, you’ll still need to hold tight until April 3.
This latest map takes the gripping Dark Aether storyline further along, with the action shifting to a mysterious old mansion tucked away in the densely wooded hills of West Virginia, near a town called Liberty Falls. Our infamous crew, having obtained the Sentinel Artifact, now finds themselves in this eerie mansion, which might remind players of scenes from the original Liberty Falls cinematic.
In this new locale, players can expect to unleash new traps on the undead. Among these are microwave traps to fry zombies and the Dark Aether Field Generator, which can disintegrate zombies in a burst of dark aether energy. Just try not to fall victim to your own setups!
The mansion isn’t just all spooky vibes; it boasts an impressive T-Rex skeleton as a centerpiece, hinting at the wild ride that Season 3 promises for Zombies enthusiasts.
Things get intense with new adversaries too. Enter the Elder Disciple—an ethereal being that can strengthen both itself and nearby zombies, spawning more threats and transforming them into menacing foes like Doppelghasts. Also lurking are the hazardous toxic zombies, sprinting at lightning speed and leaving behind damaging acid puddles upon exploding—definitely a challenge for the unprepared.
For those who love a bit of nostalgia, the beloved Double Tap perk-a-cola makes a return. You can pick it up from the Der Wunderfizz machine across various Black Ops 6 zombies maps. This perk, a blast from Black Ops 3’s past, comes with several alluring augments:
Major Augments:
- Double Jeopardy: Low-health zombies might drop dead instantly when hit.
- Double Impact: Quick, successive hits on a target deal heavier damage.
- Double Standard: Non-critical shots inflict double damage on normal bullet weapons.
Minor Augments:
- Double Time: Boosts your firing rate.
- Double or Nothing: Weapons might do double damage—or none at all.
- Double Play: Rapidly taking down two enemies might reload two bullets back into your magazine.
As for the weaponry, two new wonder weapons with various versions are arriving to keep the action fresh and explosive. The revamped Ray Gun Mark II delivers a three-round burst and introduces variants that spice up your shots with SMG characteristics, fire effects, and shotgun-like patterns. Meanwhile, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 is all about chain-lightning blasts, packed with a potential for stunning crowds.
Players can look forward to some quirky new Gobblegums as well, like Tactical Diffusion, giving your team a bonus of 2,000 Essence by neutralizing a Nuke Power-Up. Also joining the fray are Support Group and Die Pitched, which transforms zombie growls into high-pitched whines for a short spell.
The thrilling new season doesn’t stop there. The Death Machine scorestreak is craftable for a bit of stylish zombie slaying. And come the Mid-Season update, Directed Mode and the temporary Team Cranked mode will enhance the experience, along with the new Frost Blast field upgrade.
You can jump into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 right now on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC through platforms like Steam and Battle.net. To top it off, a free trial launches on April 2 at 9 AM PT, encompassing all the latest Zombies offerings for those eager to try before they buy.
