It seems like yet another game might be biting the dust, and this time it’s PlatinumGames’ mysterious Project G.G. If you haven’t heard much about it, you’re not alone. Announced back in 2020, details about the game were sparse, and now, with the departure of its director Hideki Kamiya—who incidentally co-founded the studio—the future for Project G.G. looks bleak, if not non-existent.
Scrolling through PlatinumGames’ website today, you’ll spot a lineup of 10 games, prominently featuring popular titles like the Bayonetta series, Nier: Automata, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. They’ve also recently announced Ninja Gaiden 4. However, a little digging with the Wayback Machine reveals that there once were 22 titles listed, including fan favorites like Transformers: Devastation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, and The Legend of Korra. These, alongside in-house games like Madworld and the notorious Babylon’s Fall, have dedicated pages but are no longer on the main site. Project G.G., once part of this list, now doesn’t even have its own page, with its URL redirecting back to the main homepage.
This situation practically seals the fate of Project G.G., hinting it’s likely never going to be released. This isn’t too shocking, considering Kamiya hasn’t been part of the studio for over a year now. Recently, there have been signs that PlatinumGames is in a bit of turmoil, especially with some staff departures. But the announcement of a new Ninja Gaiden game suggests that the studio is still trying to keep its momentum going, at least for the time being.
