Developer People Can Fly and Sony Interactive Entertainment have teamed up to create a new video game, codenamed “Project Delta,” as revealed in their recent announcement. Although the specifics of this project remain a mystery, enthusiastic PlayStation fans are buzzing with speculation that it might be a revival of the SOCOM series.
The discovery surfaced thanks to an observant member of the PS5 subreddit, who noted the collaboration between People Can Fly and Sony, hinting at the development of a new game based on a Sony IP. Known for its expertise in shooter games like Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, the Polish studio’s involvement has led fans to narrow down potential franchises, with many leaning towards SOCOM. Other possibilities being tossed around include Killzone, Resistance, and Warhawk.
“It has to be either SOCOM or Killzone, given their focus on shooters,” one user commented. “Resistance is also a solid guess.”
Another Redditor chimed in with nostalgia, saying, “I wouldn’t mind seeing a Warhawk reboot. That game had the potential to be the next big thing before Fortnite came along, but Sony never fully tapped into it.”
A third user passionately added, “Please, let it be Resistance!”
For now, it’s all just guesswork. There’s even the tongue-in-cheek suggestion of it turning out to be a third-person shooter based on Knack. We might be waiting quite a while before any official details come through.
For those not familiar, SOCOM was a beloved third-person tactical shooter series, appearing on the PS2, PS3, and PSP. The last installment, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, hit the scene in 2011 but received mixed reviews. Metacritic records show it earned an average score of 67 from 64 critics, and the series has been on hiatus ever since.
