Ever since the buzz started about Forza Horizon 5 making its way to the PS5, it feels like there’s a steady stream of Xbox games eyeing a spot on Sony’s gaming shelves. One of the juiciest rumors floating around lately suggests that Marcus Fenix, along with his epic battle against the Locust Horde, might be headed to PlayStation consoles before the year wraps up. But hold on! The latest whispers hint that instead of a single release, we might be getting a collection of the first three Gears of War games. Expected to launch simultaneously on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, this could be exciting news for fans on both sides of the console divide.
There’s talk in the gaming community, particularly from a credible leaker known as eXtas1s, about a Gears of War collection being in the pipeline. While there’s still some question about the exact announcement date, eXtas1s is confident in saying that this collection will be available on multiple platforms from day one. Interestingly, this collection is rumored to support cross-play, so players from PC, Xbox, and PlayStation can team up and play together.
Reflecting on the potential release details, eXtas1s shared, “I’ve gone through quite the journey verifying the existence of the Gears Collection, but it’s looking increasingly real. When the time finally comes for the announcement—though I can’t pinpoint when that will be—it’s supposed to be a multiplatform release from the get-go.” As translated by ResetEra member Rychu, eXtas1s adds, “These remasters are set to embrace cross-platform play, so players can jump in together across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. The only thing I couldn’t pin down was if it’s coming to the Switch, but cross-play should be doable elsewhere.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard whispers of Gears of War possibly landing on the PS5. Just a few weeks ago, Jez Corden from Windows Central suggested that the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might see a Sony console release as far out as 2025.
Like any other gaming rumor, it’s wise to stay skeptical until these things are set in stone. Despite various insiders seemingly aligning on these reports, game development has a way of being unpredictable. Things can pivot overnight, making any current speculation obsolete. So, until we get an official nod from the developers themselves, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and wait for that dream to turn into reality.
