We’re digging into a new review for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, and I had the chance to chat with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, the co-founder of Polygon Treehouse. Here’s what he shared about the game.
PS4Blog: Good morning, Alex! It’s great to see you with us again. How have things been?
Thank you! Things have been quite hectic since our last indie release, Röki, but fascinating. With Mythwrecked, we’ve ventured into exploring folklore and mythology from a fresh perspective, imagining what Greek gods would be like if they lived among us today, rather than focusing on Scandinavian tales.
PS4B: Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch on December 5. What should players expect from this new journey?
We like to call Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island an “explore-o-story” game. Players step into the shoes of Alex, a backpacker whose much-needed break from the daily grind is cut short by a mysterious storm, leaving them stranded on an uncharted island. Throughout the adventure, you’ll forge friendships with Greek gods, help them recover their memories, and search for a way back home.
PS4B: When did you start developing this project, and how has it evolved from the original idea to what we’ll soon be playing?
I first began conceptualizing the game about three years ago. The core features, like radar treasure hunting and memory flashbacks, have stayed consistent since those early days. However, what’s really evolved is the ‘Story Sandbox.’ Initially, the conversations and relationships with the gods underwent several changes, and I’m really satisfied with the result. It truly immerses players, making them feel like they’re part of an unfolding narrative.
PS4B: With Röki, we saw a physical release. Is there a chance of the same for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island?
I absolutely love physical editions and was thrilled Röki received one. Sadly, there’s no news on that front for Mythwrecked right now, but it’s definitely something I hope to see materialize in the future.
PS4B: Before we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
A big thank you to everyone for their interest! If you’re a fan of cozy games, mythology, adventure, or mystery, I wholeheartedly encourage you to dive into Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We believe it will be an indie adventure you won’t want to miss!
