As the PlayStation 5 takes the spotlight as the core console for PlayStation fans, it’s clear that the PS4’s days are numbered in terms of active support. This shift includes a well-loved MMORPG that’s discontinuing its presence on the older system, though players are being generously offered a free upgrade to the new version.
## Black Desert Online for PS4 Bids Farewell
Pearl Abyss has revealed its decision to wind down Black Desert Online’s PS4 and Xbox One versions. Gamers still have a few months left to enjoy their adventures before the title moves exclusively to current-generation consoles. The curtain will officially fall for these versions on June 26 during a scheduled maintenance. Fortunately, players can transition seamlessly to the upgraded version at no extra cost, with all account details and previous purchases following them.
“Your game data is safe and sound,” says Brian Choi, the Black Desert Console Live Service Manager, reassuring players about the shift from PS4 to PS5. “All the essential account info and digital purchases tied to Black Desert will be right there waiting for you when you make the move to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series installations. We realize that this announcement might be a letdown for many of our dedicated players. Yet, Black Desert has continuously evolved with updates aimed at enhancing your adventure.”
Choi elaborates, “Despite persistent efforts to refine and update content for past-generation consoles, we’ve hit a wall where their hardware limitations prevent us from delivering cutting-edge content with the quality it deserves. After thorough deliberation, we’ve decided that focusing our attention on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series is the best way forward to ensure a more seamless and elevated experience.”
When Black Desert Online made its U.S. debut back in 2016, it sparked a mixed bag of feelings among critics. Metacritic data shows it garnered an average score of 73 from 35 critic reviews. It was eventually made available for the PS4 and Xbox One in 2019.
