The Minecraft Movie has taken the box office by storm, raking in over $550 million globally. According to Deadline, this includes $281 million from audiences across the United States and an impressive $269.6 million from international markets.
Surprisingly, these substantial earnings come despite the film receiving rather lukewarm reviews from critics. However, it seems that young fans are flocking to theaters, particularly for the much-talked-about Chicken Jockey meme scene, which has become something of a phenomenon among kids.
The movie’s financial success marks a significant rise from its initial weekend haul of $313 million, following its release on April 4th.
Reflecting on the film’s early achievements, Mary Parent, chair of Legendary Entertainment, shared, “Whenever we create films, our hope is always for a cultural connection. When a movie does resonate, it develops a life of its own. It’s like setting off dynamite.”
