Back in September at the Connect conference, Meta revealed an exciting collaboration with Microsoft to enable Windows 11 PCs to automatically pair wirelessly with the Quest headset. Fast forward a bit, and now they’ve announced that we’ll get a sneak peek at this feature in December.
For those using Quest 3 and Quest 3S, this means they’ll be able to easily link up with their Windows 11 PCs for a robust multi-monitor setup. If you happen to own a Vision Pro and are familiar with using it alongside a Mac through Apple’s Mac Virtual Display, this setup won’t be too surprising, given the Apple XR headset has played in this space since its launch in February 2024.
Microsoft plans to kick off a public preview of this feature at some point in December. They’re hoping it’s something that will resonate with users looking to boost their productivity in new and immersive ways.
Melissa Grant, who’s Microsoft 365’s Senior Director of Product Marketing, elaborated on their blog: “Bringing the full potential of Windows 11 into mixed reality headsets begins with Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. You can easily connect to your local Windows PC or Windows 365 Cloud PC using a Quest headset, and you’ll have a private, high-quality, multi-monitor workstation ready in just seconds.”
During the initial announcement back at Connect, Meta introduced a cool way to seamlessly access your PC—by glancing at your keyboard. This feature allows for quick access and the ability to drag windows across virtual monitors, marking a significant shift from the current Remote Desktop experience through Meta’s Air Link.
While Quest has carved out a solid reputation as a top-tier standalone VR gaming console, Mark Zuckerberg sees deeper Windows integration as an important move for the platform’s evolution.
“This is our way forward in creating a comprehensive computing platform,” Zuckerberg mentioned. “It’s not limited to games—although the Quest handles those incredibly well. You’ll be able to use it for apps, streaming videos, and essentially every imaginable task you’d expect from a versatile computer. Quest encompasses all of that.”
We’ll be keeping tabs on any updates regarding official release dates and will bring you the latest as soon as we hear more.
