Jim Carrey has just wrapped up his role as the quirky, mustachioed villain Dr. Robotnik in Sonic 3, and he’s already hinted that he might be game for future Sonic movies, like a potential Sonic 4, if the storyline “sounds fun” enough to bring him on board.
Carrey made a bit of a comeback to appear in Sonic 3, and during the red carpet event, he joked that he returned because after previously saying he’d need a script “written in gold ink” to lure him back, “I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”
In a conversation with Japanese YouTube channel Cinema Today, Carrey shared his thoughts on the possibility of taking part in more Sonic films. He said, “I’m definitely open. I’m open to the idea, and generally, they come to me with the next idea, and if I go, ‘that sounds fun’, then I’ll do it. I don’t feel locked to anything in life, unless it’s something that interests me.”
He expressed his affection for the team and fans, stating, “I certainly love this crew, I love this gang that makes these movies, and I love the fans. There’s a lot of really great energy around it, great responses, and the fans jump in and say, ‘how about if you do this?’ They’ve been super helpful. I think we’re all making this movie together.”
Early in the video, Carrey also mentions that he “power-rests between projects” and showcases a pretty amusing facial expression. While I might not rank it as high as his iconic Grinch face, it gets points for the accompanying playful sound, earning a solid 8/10 from me.
On a lighter note, this serves as a nice distraction from rehashing certain parts of Carrey’s past, like his vaccine views or his foray into NFTs.
Shifting gears slightly, last year, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller talked about which other games they might be interested in adapting.
