Ever since its debut in 2005, this series has invited players to don the armor of heroes and vanquish countless creatures lurking beyond the Dungeon Gate. Its journey through the years has been nothing short of legendary, influencing future game developers and leaving an indelible mark on the action RPG genre. Notably, the creative minds behind Fate later introduced the world to Torchlight, another highly-acclaimed dungeon crawler that fans quickly embraced.
It seems only appropriate, given the legacy of Fate, that its 20th birthday would be marked with something equally special—a thrilling remaster that captures the essence of why fans fell in love with the original.
Come March 12, Fate: Reawakened will make its grand entrance on the Xbox Series X|S, showcasing a definitive edition that brings together all four Fate games into one epic collection.
### The Rise of Fate
Back when Fate first made its debut, it was a breath of fresh air in the action RPG world. Amidst a host of dark, moody alternatives, Fate stood out with its vibrant and colorful art style, making it a favorite among younger gamers and family audiences.
At the time, some Windows computers came pre-loaded with Fate, boosting its accessibility and popularity. Players were captivated by the endless dungeon challenges and the charming pet companions they could choose to accompany their quests.
As the franchise’s popularity soared, so did its community. Despite the lack of new releases since 2011, Fate’s presence remained alive and thriving across platforms like Discord, YouTube, and other social media. This enduring passion from fans speaks volumes about the game’s impact, and when the chance to reimagine the franchise came around, excitement naturally followed.
### An Idea is Sparked
The idea to revisit the Fate series emerged in 2019 when gamigo acquired WildTangent, the original creators. The COVID pandemic of 2020 put a kink in things, leading to delays in deciding how best to honor the series. After much contemplation, we concluded that a remaster marking the 20th Anniversary would be the ideal way to rejuvenate the nostalgic franchise.
While Fate’s allure has stood the test of time, we knew a modern refresh was needed to attract today’s gamers. Up until now, the series had been exclusively on PC. Expanding onto consoles and including additional language support paved the way for reaching unexplored audiences.
### A Delicate Undertaking
Embracing the task of revitalizing a beloved series is no small feat. However, our mission with Fate: Reawakened was never to alter its foundation but rather to enhance what fans already cherished.
One crucial step was showcasing an early demo at PAX West 2024. This allowed us to gather feedback from both new and longtime fans. While newcomers provided insights on the user experience, legacy players offered invaluable advice on maintaining the authentic feel of Fate. They guided what a remaster should and shouldn’t be.
To delve even deeper, we ran a closed beta with a select group of hardcore fans. These players, well-versed in Fate, offered detailed feedback that led to crucial refinements. This open dialogue played a pivotal role in ensuring we were on track to honor the series.
Our internal team, many of whom are Fate enthusiasts themselves, put tremendous effort into development. Particularly, the dark and enigmatic Druantia area underwent extensive tweaks to capture its original charm and mood.

Fate: Reawakened is a heartfelt homage to both the series and its dedicated community. We’ve cherished watching players express their creativity through Fate over the years, and we eagerly await the next chapter. Will you answer the call and revive the hero within?
