Baldur’s Gate 3 is hands-down one of the standout games of 2023. Garnering a slew of Game of the Year honors, it’s left an undeniable mark on the gaming community. Yet, fans have been vocal about some missing features—features that Patch 8 is set to deliver.
What’s New in Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8?
With anticipation building, Patch 8 is poised to be a game-changer for this highly-adored RPG. Scheduled to roll out early next year, it promises to bring cross-play, a photo mode, and 12 fresh subclasses. And rest assured, this update will hit all platforms, including the PS5.
According to the latest Baldur’s Gate 3 Community Update, the introduction of cross-play means gamers across different systems—be it PS5, PC, Xbox, or Mac—can dive into adventures together. However, you’ll need to enable this feature yourself and must have a Larian Network account to get started.
The new photo mode is bound to be a hit, offering players the chance to capture memorable moments during their quests. This mode provides a suite of options: you can spotlight characters in your party, tweak lens and scene settings, and apply post-processing effects, frames, and stickers to craft standout snapshots. While the mode is accessible during gameplay and cutscenes, it’s worth noting that camera and lens adjustments aren’t possible during the cinematic sequences.
On top of that, Patch 8 enriches the gameplay with 12 unique subclasses, each introducing fresh abilities, animations, visual effects, summons, and cantrips. Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Bard – College of Glamour
- Barbarian – Path of Giants
- Cleric – Death Domain
- Druid – Circle of Stars
- Paladin – Oath of the Crown
- Fighter – Arcane Archer
- Monk – Drunken Master
- Ranger – Swarmkeeper
- Rogue – Swashbuckler
- Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
- Warlock – Hexblade
- Wizard – Bladesinging
Larian Studios is committed to ensuring a smooth rollout, and they plan to conduct a stress test for Patch 8. PS5 players eager to participate can sign up for the testing phase, set to kick off in January. Detailed instructions will be available in their upcoming Community Update.
