Rocksteady Studios has just rolled out the last big content update for their game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. With the launch of Season 4 Episode 8, players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC can now dive into the new features. It’s been a tumultuous journey for the game, which received harsh criticism upon its release and now, just under a year later, Rocksteady has decided to halt development after the upcoming January 14 patch. Despite this, the game’s servers will stay online for fans to enjoy.
Initially, the concept of teaming up famous DC anti-heroes against superheroes seemed like a foolproof plan to attract fans. However, the game’s unexpected shift toward live-service elements sparked controversy and quickly led to its downfall. With the December 9th announcement, Rocksteady confirmed that Season 4 Episode 8 would be the game’s curtain call, although players can still enjoy online features with friends.
Following a brief period of server downtime, the latest update brings players a bunch of new adventures in Season 4 Episode 8: Balance. The patch introduces an Infamy Set themed around the DC Super-Villain Libra, adds a set of powerful Notorious weapons, and launches a Mayhem mission marking a final confrontation with Brainiac. It also brings various gameplay updates like lowering XP requirements and several bug fixes.
The game’s servers will continue running after Episode 8’s release, and thanks to a prior update in December, players can enjoy its content offline. This December patch made it possible to play nearly all the game’s content, including campaign and seasonal missions, without an internet connection—a much-praised feature by fans. While there has been no full server shutdown announcement, if it eventually happens, players will still have access to their adventures through offline mode.
For those who haven’t experienced this DC universe game, PlayStation Plus members can catch up, since Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available there until February 3. It comes bundled with The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, providing a decent mix of gaming experiences.
As for what’s inside the latest update, the adventure taps into the medieval Elseworld with new locales and challenges such as The Quarry. It also takes us to an arena perfect for jousting or intense battles, where you’re likely to admire the statues of King Jor-El and Queen Lara Lor-Van.
A unique Infamy Set linked to Libra offers players a high-risk, high-reward gameplay style, while the new Notorious weapons add diverse strategies with names like The Silencer and Doctor Sivana’s Magic Bullets, encouraging dynamic and sometimes risky playstyles with their powerful—but costly—effects.
The update includes a plethora of gameplay tweaks, such as a reduction in certain combat move durations and decreased Squad Level XP requirements, alongside an array of bug fixes like resolving issues that have affected players in specific regions and challenges.
While the path for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been a bumpy one, this final update offers players new ways to engage with the game. It’s a bittersweet end, leaving us to imagine what could have been accomplished with more community support and a few creative pivots in its design strategy. As it stands, though, there’s plenty for players to explore and enjoy, whether online or offline, if they’re looking for a unique superhero-vs-antihero experience.
