Hey Splitgate enthusiasts! Exciting news is on the horizon as the much-anticipated sequel to this viral shooter is now open for playtest sign-ups.
Every now and then, a shooter bursts onto the scene, capturing everyone’s attention despite seemingly emerging from nowhere. That’s exactly what happened with Splitgate back in 2021. While it wasn’t entirely fresh out of the blue—having been in early access for a couple of years—it was the indefinite beta that truly took off. Fast forward to the next year, after its full launch, and the developers at 1047 Games had quite the announcement. They decided to halt feature development on the “Halo meets Portal” shooter. Why? So they could pour their efforts into crafting a sequel using Unreal Engine 5!
Earlier this year, fans got some thrilling news. The sequel was officially announced, with a target release window set for 2025. And here’s the kicker: if you head over to the game’s official Twitter, you’ll find that open playtest sign-ups are available right now!
Their tweet is a rallying call, “Suit up and get ready for more Splitgate 2!” they said. “The team’s been cooking up something explosive and we’re excited to get your feedback.” Signing up is straightforward. It involves filling out a Google form with questions. They’re curious if you’ve played the first game, what recent shooters you’re into, and even the gaming platform you prefer.
It’s important to note, though, that they ask for your Steam and Discord handles. Most likely because the playtests will happen there. If you’re someone who values privacy and prefers to keep your gaming identifiers under wraps, you might have to pass on this one.
And here’s a little insider scoop: Back in September, our very own Connor had a chat with the CEO of 1047 Games. They discussed ways to keep the game feeling fresh and what lessons they could learn from iconic games like Halo Reach. If you haven’t read the piece yet, it’s definitely worth your time!
