Mortal Kombat became infamous not only for its intense violence and gore but also for its intriguing secrets. Ed Boon, one of the series’ creators, has been hiding secret characters—often palette-swapped ninjas—within the games for over three decades. Now, there’s a buzz in the air that Boon and his team are teasing the introduction of another secret ninja in Mortal Kombat 1: Floyd.
Yes, you guessed it right, Floyd, as in Pink Floyd. Back in 2022, Boon responded to a fan’s query on Twitter about introducing a new ninja character by saying, “I honestly want to make a PINK ninja and name him FLOYD.” This isn’t too far-fetched, considering Boon once introduced a purple ninja named Rain simply because of his admiration for Prince.
It seems the moment for Floyd’s grand entrance has arrived. Gamers who have had early access to Mortal Kombat 1’s latest DLC character, Conan the Barbarian, have been receiving intriguing clues about Floyd’s debut. However, the exact manner in which this pink ninja will make his appearance remains shrouded in mystery.
Floyd’s rumored inclusion in Mortal Kombat lore was first picked up by Super, a fighting game YouTuber. He noticed that Floyd’s name, accompanied by an electric guitar riff, would sometimes pop up on screen after matches when playing as Conan in the Living Forest stage. This particular stage is well-known for being the hiding spot of secret characters like Jade and Smoke in Mortal Kombat 2, which adds more weight to the speculation that Floyd is the next ninja to join the fray.
Despite the hints, how players will face off against or control Floyd in MK1 is still unknown. Super didn’t manage to encounter this elusive ninja during his gameplay sessions.
Mortal Kombat 1 already boasts an impressive lineup of ninjas. The primary roster is packed with iconic male ninjas such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Rain, Reptile, Smoke, Noob Saibot, and Ermac. Additionally, there are Kameo Fighter versions of characters like Tremor, Khameleon, Frost, Cyrax, Sektor, classic Sub-Zero, and classic Scorpion.
