Recently, some posters released alongside the first trailer for “Fantastic Four: First Steps” faced allegations of being AI-generated, but Marvel has been quick to dismiss these claims.
In today’s world, discerning AI from real artistry has become increasingly challenging, as the technology keeps improving. Gone are the days when a poorly executed image would simply be chalked up to bad Photoshop skills. Now, whenever we encounter something that looks a bit off, the instinctive reaction is to question, “Is this AI?” This scenario played out when the latest posters for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” made their debut. If you take a close look at them, it’s easy to see why some might lean towards the AI theory.
For instance, a woman’s face seems to appear twice among the crowd, and someone waving a large Fantastic Four flag only has four fingers—a tell-tale glitch often seen in AI-generated images. The lighting, too, has a peculiar feel, adding to the suspicion. However, a Marvel representative assured The Hollywood Reporter that AI wasn’t a part of the creative process for these posters. If we take their word for it, another question arises: why do they look so subpar?
This situation hints at a broader issue, possibly stemming from Marvel trying to cut corners despite its ample budget. Ironically, it clashes sharply with the film’s trailer, which surprisingly appears to use genuine sets after years of leaning heavily on green screens. I personally suspect these posters might just be the result of sloppy Photoshop work. The identical duplicate of a face isn’t something you’d expect AI to mess up. But honestly? It makes me question why I’d want to invest time in a Marvel flick if even minor tasks like this are being skimped on.
Hopefully, the film itself won’t disappoint, but we’ll only find out when it’s released on July 25 later this year.
