Game Science, the developer behind Black Myth: Wukong, has clarified again that challenges with optimizing the game for the Xbox Series S are causing its unplanned PS5 exclusivity. Despite this explanation, some major outlets continue to cling to an unlikely story about Sony allegedly securing a “secret” exclusivity deal for the game. This rumor has gained traction, partly fueled by some ambiguous comments from Microsoft. Yet, we’ve pointed out repeatedly that these claims lack any real basis.
The game’s director, Feng Ji, recently addressed these rumors on the Chinese social media platform Weibo (highlighted by ResetEra) while discussing Black Myth: Wukong’s recent win at the Steam Awards, where it snagged the prestigious Game of the Year 2024 award. During his reflection on the studio’s accomplishments, Feng Ji expressed his regret regarding the absence of an Xbox version.
“It feels a bit off, but with the 10GB of shared memory and without several years of optimization experience…” Feng Ji remarked, highlighting the challenges posed by the Xbox Series S memory configuration.
In an interesting twist, Microsoft has publicly stated that they are unaware of any optimization issues with Black Myth: Wukong on the Series S. “We prefer not to discuss our partners’ agreements with other platform holders, but we can confirm that the delay is unrelated to any reported Xbox platform limitations brought to our attention,” a spokesperson told Forbes.
With this clear statement, it’s time to put this rumor to bed once and for all.
