The latest chapter for Dead by Daylight, titled Doomed Course, has popped onto the scene, and it’s available for $7.99. This fresh DLC brings unique twists to the game, including the introduction of The Houndmaster, Dead by Daylight’s first Killer equipped with an AI-controlled buddy. On the flipside, we meet the new Survivor, Taurie Cain, whose abilities focus heavily on making sacrifices.
Since its release in 2016, Behaviour Interactive’s asymmetric survival horror game, Dead by Daylight, has shown no signs of slowing down. By late 2023, the game boasted over 60 million lifetime players, and it continues to enjoy a steady influx of active users each month. The game’s enduring popularity is thanks, in large part, to consistently receiving new content about every quarter.
The excitement now builds up with the new chapter, Doomed Course, which was released on November 28, right after Thanksgiving. This update rolls out an interesting duo of characters—The Houndmaster and Taurie Cain. Portia Maye, the infamous Houndmaster, commands a fearsome black hound that tracks, chases, and immobilizes Survivors. This AI-controlled companion is a first for the game, adding a fascinating dynamic to the Killer’s role by intensifying the chase and altering strategic possibilities.
Operating the hound is pretty straightforward. Its Chase ability lets it charge at targets, with a change in direction possible mid-charge. Meanwhile, the Search ability detects any Survivors within its expanding radius, and if The Houndmaster follows her hound, she receives a speed boost. Portia Maye brings a refreshing layer of strategy to the game, shaking up the familiar cat-and-mouse vibe with innovative mechanics.
On the other side of the game, there’s Taurie Cain, regarded by Behaviour Interactive as “the morally darkest Survivor” they’ve crafted. Her background is shadowed by a failure to perform a grim task for the Black Talon cult—spare an innocent life. Her survival traits—Shoulder The Burden, Clean Break, and Invocation: Treacherous Crows—are sacrifice-oriented, enabling her to support fellow Survivors at her own peril, enduring drawbacks like Injured and Broken status.
Priced at $7.99, Dead by Daylight: Doomed Course also gifts players an exclusive Killer item, the Titanium Skull, accompanied by a unique Survivor aesthetic, the Gold Tier. If Behaviour Interactive maintains its pattern, fans can expect the next chapter drop around the close of February or the onset of March 2025.
