Few games manage crossovers with the finesse of Dead By Daylight. Bringing in killers from other franchises not only broadens the game’s universe but also introduces unique gameplay elements and perks. Sure, the Survivor additions are intriguing, but there’s something extraordinary about playing as the Xenomorph from Alien or Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head. However, not all characters can stick around indefinitely, and recently, Behaviour Interactive announced a surprising update. Soon, The Cenobite, an iconic figure from the Hellraiser series, will no longer be part of Dead By Daylight’s roster.
For fans of Pinhead, the news might come as a blow. All content associated with the Hellraiser Chapter is set to disappear. When queried about this, Behaviour explained that as Dead by Daylight is a live service game, unforeseen changes are sometimes necessary. It’s likely that the licensing agreement for the Hellraiser DLC has simply reached its end.
The upside? If you already have Pinhead, or if you acquire him before the cutoff, he’ll still be playable. In addition, any Hellraiser content you previously purchased will remain accessible. Unique perks associated with Pinhead will retain their original names for current owners, while players without him will find these perks renamed and added to the general pool. The same rule applies to achievements specific to the Hellraiser content.
If Pinhead is a must-have for you, time is running out. Behaviour is offering a “Last Chance” sale, slashing prices by 50% on all Hellraiser-related goodies, including The Chatterer Legendary Outfit. This deal runs until the character leaves the game’s universe.
Mark your calendars: Pinhead’s last day available for unlocking in Dead By Daylight is Friday, April 4, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm BST / 5pm CEST.
Seeing a crossover character exit Dead By Daylight is both rare and disheartening. Despite the wealth of other compelling characters available, there’s an underlying worry that additional characters might vanish if similar licensing issues arise. The Hellraiser DLC has added value to the game since its introduction in August 2021, and its departure will be felt.
