Hello everyone! I’m Juan Martinez, the executive producer at Fatshark and part of the team behind Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. It’s great to finally invite all the PlayStation players to dive into the four-player co-op, grimdark world we’ve crafted.
Today brings exciting news as those who pre-ordered the Imperial Edition for PS5 now have early access to Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. But don’t worry if you missed out—December 3 marks the date when the game will be open to all PS5 players.
Since its original PC release in November 2022, we’ve been tirelessly working to expand Darktide, rolling out nine major updates along with over 25 content and improvement patches. With the PS5 release, we’re also dropping our 10th major free update, Grim Protocols. And there’s plenty more planned in the future!
### Fast-Paced Combat, Fatshark Style
Creating a game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe has been a long-held ambition for us. With Darktide, that vision comes alive. You’re thrust into a world as a conscripted convict—a Reject—tasked with aiding the Inquisition in reclaiming Tertium from chaotic forces. We’ve honed a hybrid combat system that seamlessly blends melee and ranged strategies to ensure your survival.
### Bringing Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to PS5 and PS5 Pro
In developing Darktide for PS5, we were laser-focused on optimizing the experience for players. We adapted the game to leverage PS5’s hardware capabilities, offering options such as Performance mode (60FPS at 1440p) and Quality mode (30FPS at 4K). For PS5 Pro owners, we utilized PSSR technology to ensure a smooth 60FPS at 4K resolution.
Our team spent considerable time with the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The goal was to make the controller feel like an extension of the Darktide universe itself. Whether you’re unloading with a Boltgun, taking precise shots with a Lasgun, or wielding a psyker-charged Force Staff, each weapon offers a distinct tactile experience.
The haptic technology breathes life into your weapons. You’ll feel the jolting shake with every shot, and as your ammo dwindles, the triggers become more intense, keeping you aware. The sensation of the Chainsword’s blades biting through enemies is designed to thrill you in the most visceral way. We’re eager to see your reactions when these features roll out on December 3.
### Unlock Your Potential
To make sure you feel at home in Tertium, we’ve packed the character creator with options to personalize your Reject. Tailor everything from class to appearance, backstory, and voice. We want you to forge a personal connection to this world’s intricate conflicts.
Classes in Darktide come with complex talent trees, offering further customization through three primary domains and their sub-classes. Additionally, our itemization overhaul grants you the freedom to gain proficiency across our 40+ weapon families.
### An Ever-Evolving Game
As December 3 arrives, PS5 sees not only the launch of Darktide but also the introduction of our latest update, Grim Protocols, packed with fresh content. Get ready for an exciting new endgame mode called Havoc, where you can put your skills to the ultimate test amidst formidable challenges.
We’re expanding our mission roster with a new addition called the Carnival, a notorious spot known for offering a mix of leisure and shady adventures.
We’re also rolling out three new weapon families — including the Two-Handed Force and Power Swords, and the mighty Ogryn Heavy Stubber — to keep your combat experience fresh and deadly.
Stay tuned for more updates on our official PS5 channels as we continue to unfold new content into 2025. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide officially hits PS5 on December 3. Welcome to Tertium, Rejects. May you face the challenges ahead in honor of the Emperor!
