The Molasses Flood, a game development team based in Boston, has now officially merged with CD Projekt Red, the renowned Polish gaming powerhouse. This significant merger was announced in a recent blog post on The Molasses Flood’s website, confirming that starting April 1st, they would cease to exist as an independent entity, becoming part of the company behind the globally-acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077. Despite this big change, The Molasses Flood reassured fans that their previous titles, such as The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow, wouldn’t be impacted by their acquisition by CD Projekt back in 2021. The team is now setting its sights on creating Project Sirius, an exciting multiplayer game within The Witcher universe.
In a related development, Damian Isla, who founded The Molasses Flood, has decided to depart from the studio. Sharing his thoughts on LinkedIn, he expressed the emotional weight of this transition, stating, “Obviously this is a big change.” Isla reflected on how much the studio has meant to him over the years, saying, “The Molasses Flood has been a massive part of my life for the past decade and more. I’m incredibly proud to have helped build something that endured as long as it did, especially in an industry often unforgiving to small teams like ours. Our journey allowed us to create some beautiful, memorable, and uniquely quirky projects, and I had the privilege of working alongside some of the most generous, talented, and kind-hearted individuals in the industry.”
