ILM and Lucasfilm have just given gamers a taste of what’s in store with their upcoming Quest 3 title, Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. This new game promises both virtual and mixed reality elements, sure to excite fans of the franchise.
In conjunction with Meta, the studios offered the first hands-on experience of the game at the ‘Star Wars Celebration 2025’ in Tokyo, Japan, from April 18-20. This event also unveiled an intriguing tease of the gameplay set to feature in the release.
Still in the works, developers have positioned Star Wars: Beyond Victory in the timeline of Solo: A Star Wars Story. When it finally hits Quest 3 and 3S, players can look forward to exploring three distinctive modes.
One mode offers a VR/MR story where you’ll step into the shoes of a podracer named Volo. There’s also an arcade mode, which transforms mini-podracing into a mixed reality experience on a holotable. And if collecting is your thing, the ‘playset’ mode will delight, enabling you to adorn your real-world space with a variety of unlockable virtual action figures and vehicles.
Alyssa Finley, the game’s Executive Producer, elaborates, “We call this a Playset rather than just a game because it’s a fresh way to explore the Star Wars universe and the worlds we design at ILM,” she explains. “This mixed reality experience seamlessly merges the tangible and the digital, and it’s unlike anything we’ve done before. We can’t wait to give a sneak peek to our amazing Star Wars fans.”
If you’re planning to be at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo this Friday, don’t miss the chance to try out Star Wars: Beyond Victory at the ILM and Meta Quest booth (you’ll find it in Hall 4, Booth #20-5). The booth will also feature demos of their previous XR hits, Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
There’s no official release date just yet, but, as with all ILM’s VR ventures set in the Star Wars universe, expect tantalizing updates to trickle out before the launch. Keep your eyes peeled for more!
