Elden Ring’s seamless co-op mod, created by the talented modder Yui, has become a favorite among fans, and now they’re bringing their magic to Dark Souls 3.
FromSoftware has a unique approach to online multiplayer in their games. The idea is simple: if battling through a challenging game alone is tough, why not make it slightly easier by allowing two players to team up and take on the challenge together? However, actually connecting with friends for a co-op session can be a bit of a hassle. That’s where Yui steps in. Known for the seamless co-op mod in Elden Ring, as well as a similar mod for Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, Yui is now focusing on creating a seamless co-op mod for Dark Souls 3.
In a recently shared video, Yui showcases this new mod in action, playing with a friend as they navigate through Lothric Castle. (Spoiler alert: if you haven’t played Dark Souls 3 yet but keep telling yourself you will, be cautious about watching the video.) The mod’s description highlights its ability to eliminate all multiplayer boundaries, allowing connections to remain even after character deaths. You can journey with friends from the game’s start to finish, with synchronized progress and no tedious resummoning. Invasions are optional, set to active by default, and you can tweak the difficulty of the enemies to suit your preferences. It’s everything you’d expect from a seamless co-op mod!
Currently, there’s no set release date for the mod, so fans will need a bit of patience. In the meantime, there’s excitement on the horizon with a new Elden Ring title, Nightreign, expected to release this year. It features built-in seamless co-op but focuses more on replayability as a boss-centric roguelite.
