For all the PlayStation enthusiasts and lovers of vibrant and playful games, there’s some exciting news: Astro Bot clinched a prestigious BAFTA award last night. But not just any award—it snagged the Game of the Year title, surpassing other incredible contenders like Helldivers 2 and Balatro.
That’s not all; Astro Bot also took home several other accolades, alongside this major win. It was recognized for Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This achievement comes on the heels of its Game of the Year victory at The Game Awards last year, where it also triumphed over numerous formidable titles in what could be termed as a remarkably competitive 2024.
During the BAFTA ceremony, the team behind Astro Bot went on stage to accept their award collectively. Nicolas Doucet delivered a heartwarming speech, paying tribute to the dedicated team in Japan. He shared, “Thank you so much to all of them, back in Japan. They crafted this game with so much love, so much care, every single day bit-by-bit. With no thought to winning things, we were just doing the best we could to make people’s lives brighter.”
Doucet didn’t stop there. He expressed gratitude to key members of the team, the game’s composer, everyone at PlayStation, and all the partners whose games make an appearance in Astro Bot. Furthermore, he extended his thanks to the BAFTA academy, the developers’ families, and all the video game creators who paved the way.
