Apple has finally rolled out its panoramic display feature to all Vision Pro users, breaking away from its previous beta-only status. This update introduces three choices in virtual screen sizes when using the Mac Virtual Display.
When Mac Virtual Display first launched this past February, users only had access to a single screen size. It did support multiple app windows, but the screen space felt a bit cramped for a device that aims to prioritize computing needs over entertainment.
Fast forward to the latest visionOS 2.2 update, and Vision Pro users now enjoy two new display formats: ‘Wide’ at 21:9 and ‘Ultrawide’ at 32:9. Apple claimed during their June unveiling that the ‘Ultrawide’ format offers resolution capabilities comparable to two 4K monitors set side by side. Plus, the Mac-side dynamic foveated rendering feature ensures the content stays crisp no matter where your gaze wanders.
To make use of this feature, you’ll need a Mac running macOS Sequoia 15.2. The good news is that this update spans a broad range of devices, spanning from the 2017 iMac Pros all the way to the latest MacBooks powered by the M4 chip.
On top of this, the visionOS 2.2 update brings in support for iOS’s Personal Hotspot feature too. According to Apple, this allows Vision Pro and other devices to tap into your iPhone or iPad’s cellular data connection, effectively opening the gates to 5G download speeds.
