Days Gone Remastered is landing on the PlayStation 5 on April 25, promising players the ultimate Days Gone experience with fresh modes, improved features, and enhanced performance tailored to the PS5 and PS5 Pro platforms. Alongside these exciting additions, new game modes like Horde Assault, Permadeath, and Speedrun will also be available for PC players through the Broken Road DLC. Whether you’re a first-time survivor or a seasoned Drifter bike rider, there’s ample content and surprises awaiting you. For those eager to dive deep into the changes, you should definitely check out our Days Gone Remastered announcement blog for a detailed rundown on all the new enhancements.
One of the standout features being introduced with Days Gone Remastered is the Horde Assault mode—an engaging survival arcade experience. Before diving into its intricacies, it’s worth checking out the gameplay trailer for a sneak peek of what’s to come.
What is Horde Assault mode?
Horde Assault redefines gameplay by pushing your skills to the edge as you strive for high scores. You’ll be up against larger hordes and other formidable adversaries like Breakers, Reachers, and those fearsome Rager bears. In this ever-evolving battleground, enemies become tougher the longer you stay alive. True to the spirit of “This World Comes For You,” Horde Assault amplifies the core essence of the Days Gone universe uniquely. It’s a continuous challenge where you determine who reigns supreme—dare to show those Freakers who’s the boss.
Starting in Cascade, equipped only with a sidearm, your first goal is reaching your Drifter bike, a crucial companion for navigating the vast landscape. Supply Boxes scattered across the map can significantly boost your chances of survival by providing powerful weapons. With over 20 weapons, including a new flamethrower unavailable in Story mode, each randomly-filled Supply Box can be a game-changer in your battle against the hordes.
As you fight for survival, completing Side Jobs becomes essential, not just for replenishing resources but for earning invaluable XP too. Running out of ammunition in the face of 800 Freakers isn’t exactly desirable. We did warn you about the increased horde sizes, didn’t we? Manage to survive for 30 minutes on any given map, and you’ll face the Ultimate Horde—a relentless onslaught that aims to keep you on your toes. But we’ll hold back from saying more—it’s an experience best encountered firsthand.
Survive
Leveling up within Horde Assault unlocks rewards that include newly-playable characters, patch cosmetics, and Injectors that significantly influence gameplay. Days Gone enthusiasts will recognize Injectors from the main storyline, but here, they receive a twist with modifiers that dramatically alter gameplay. Across the journey to be a Legendary Survivor, players can acquire 24 unique Injectors—12 positive, boosting your score and difficulty; and 12 negative, offering gameplay advantages albeit with score penalties.
Without disclosing the full list, let’s highlight two intriguing Injectors:
Exploding Freakers cause Freakers to explode on death, a tremendous advantage when contending with vast hordes. Meanwhile, the Wanted Injector lets you start at the maximum heat level. As the difficulty ramps up with time, this Injector launches the challenge from the get-go, demanding strength and strategy for survival.
As you navigate Horde Assault, a Reward path becomes available. With 35 levels to conquer, players can unlock accolades like Injectors, character skins, and patches. The introduction of six never-before-playable characters including favorites like O’Brian, Lisa, and Skizzo only adds to the excitement. Patches, reminiscent of the 2019 Challenges, return as cosmetic embellishments for Deacon’s cut, primed for bragging rights in the Enhanced Photo Mode. Earn these patches, and they’ll be available in the main story as well. Along with the main Reward path, bonus goodies await in the Reputation Phase for hitting target scores across regions. There’s a much-anticipated item up for grabs, especially for motorcycle enthusiasts—get ready for an exciting reveal!
While designed as endgame content, Horde Assault is accessible as soon as you launch Days Gone Remastered. For beginners, it might be wise to get familiar with the combat and mechanics through the story first, but there’s nothing stopping you from jumping straight into the action. Horde Assault adds an extra 10 hours of gameplay to an already content-rich game, promising both new and old players a thrilling adventure into the world of Days Gone.
