For those of us who can’t resist diving into the unknown of expansive gaming worlds, sci-fi titles often become our go-to choice. It’s not surprising, considering this genre offers myriad worlds waiting to be explored. The challenge, however, lies in striking a balance. We don’t want to spend countless hours flying through an empty universe just for its sheer size. Conversely, we’re not interested in a universe filled to the brim with pointless tasks and various unnecessary detours. But when developers capture the perfect mix, players are in for an exceptional journey. Hoping to achieve this equilibrium is Cubic Odyssey, the game we’re delving into today.
Hailing from Atypical Games and backed by Gaijin Entertainment, Cubic Odyssey starts us off with quite the predicament—a crash landing on a distant planet. From this point, we must gather resources, refine materials, and construct a plethora of essentials. These range from crafting tools and setting up outposts to creating vehicles and, ultimately, starships, which will open the gates to the vast galaxy awaiting exploration.
In Cubic Odyssey, each star we spot in the night sky is the heart of its own star system, teeming with planets ripe for exploration. These worlds are alive with unique ecosystems and dynamic day-and-night cycles. They boast cities filled with NPCs, pirate bases, and ancient ruins just waiting for the brave to uncover their secrets. The overarching mission? To halt the Red Darkness, a cosmic plague that warps wildlife, devours planets, and endangers all forms of life.
Fluidity in movement is a key feature of Cubic Odyssey, seamlessly allowing travel across land, air, and space. As a player, you’ll execute warp jumps between star systems and speed through the cosmos from one planet to another. On the ground, speeders will enable you to navigate alien terrains, while other hidden areas will beckon you to explore on foot. The game offers versatility, catering to whatever style of play you prefer.
For those who prefer not to tackle these vast experiences alone, Cubic Odyssey includes cooperative options. In this mode, team up with others to combine your strengths and face massive foes, plan orbital bombardments, or construct towering cooperative structures. If you enjoy gameplay with friends, this title promises plenty of shared adventures.
“What we aspire to create is a limitless open world where every planet, every system, and every instant belongs entirely to you,” remarked Andrei Lopata, CEO of Bucharest’s Atypical Games.
Cubic Odyssey seems poised to be a tremendous amount of fun for those who crave endless activities and a universe needing a hero. For those with their sights set on the endless mysteries of outer space, this game is scheduled to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X later this year. Stay tuned for more news on this intriguing title as we edge closer to its release.
