From Software recently shared some exciting news: Elden Ring has crossed the 30 million copies mark worldwide since its 2022 release. This achievement places it alongside gaming giants like Borderlands 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Diablo 3.
Released on February 25, 2022, Elden Ring later expanded with the major DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, on June 21. Between its launch and today, 30 million players on both PC and consoles have ventured into The Lands Between. That’s quite a feat, especially considering the game’s notorious difficulty—players embraced the challenge wholeheartedly!
Both commercially and critically, Elden Ring has received immense acclaim. From its original release to the DLC, reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. The transition from the Dark Souls series to an open-world format was a hit among fans and critics alike. Even though the game retained its signature difficulty, it did see some nerfs and balance tweaks to make the experience slightly more approachable.
What From Software plans next with this 30 million milestone is anyone’s guess. However, they clearly recognize the game’s beloved status. With Elden Ring Nightreign—a co-op spin-off that utilizes much of the original’s world—on the horizon, it’s evident that From Software is keen on further exploring this genre. It wouldn’t be surprising if the company continued to build on this golden opportunity.
