Days Gone Remastered is ramping up the excitement for its fans with its much-anticipated release on April 25, 2025, promising a richer gaming experience with its new Horde Assault mode. This remastered version isn’t just about visual upgrades; it’s also about giving players more to explore with features like the Permadeath and Speedrun modes.
Initially launched exclusively on PS4 in 2019, Days Gone didn’t exactly set the gaming world on fire with its reception. However, it didn’t take long for it to carve out a devoted fan base, one that has been vocal about wanting a sequel. While that’s not on the horizon just yet, the announcement during the State of Play livestream in February 2025 of a PS5-exclusive remaster certainly fueled the hype. Bend Studio’s latest venture isn’t just a coat of new paint; it’s a reinvigoration, boasting better visuals and an exciting array of new content for players to sink their teeth into.
The PlayStation Blog gave eager players a peek into what Horde Assault has to offer. This mode extends the Days Gone journey by an impressive 10 hours, pitting players against formidable hordes, including Reachers, Breakers, and the daunting Rager bears. You’re not going into battle unarmed, though. With over 20 weapons at your disposal and 24 intriguing gameplay modifiers called Injectors, the action promises to be intense. Imagine “Exploding Freakers” that detonate upon defeat or the “Wanted” scenario that throws you directly into the highest difficulty setting. Alongside these reveals, a new trailer highlights Deacon, Boozer, Rikki Patil, and others in the thick of these adrenaline-pumping scenarios.
Horde Assault kicks things off in the Cascade region, equipping players with just a sidearm initially. Survive the early onslaught, and you gain access to a Drifter bike, enabling you to scout around for Supply Boxes that offer random weaponry. What’s more, players can tackle Side Jobs for a chance to earn resources and extra XP. The reward system doesn’t stop there—35 levels of perks await, including Injectors, cosmetic patches, and new playable characters like O’Brian, Lisa, and Skizzo. An intriguing twist sees Bend Studio hinting at a “highly requested item” related to the player’s trusty bike.
With Days Gone Remastered’s release just around the corner, anticipation is understandably building. While this updated version is a PlayStation exclusive, PC gamers can also look forward to partaking in the new modes and content via the Broken Road DLC, also arriving on the same day. This is shaping up to be an exciting time for Days Gone fans, as well as an opportunity for new players to experience the game in all its enhanced glory.
