MSI recently put rumors to rest about the alleged recall of the NVIDIA RTX 5090 due to a supposed “fire hazard.” The bit of news, stemming from a Dutch retailer not officially licensed by MSI, caused quite a stir.
Into the mix, the rumors suggested that NVIDIA’s new GeForce RTX 5090 models, especially those under MSI’s SUPRIM branding, were being pulled back from shelves. Needless to say, MSI was quick to step in with some clarity.
MSI explained the situation in a statement, detailing how, on June 3, 2025, they were taken aback by an article on Kitguru. The report claimed a Dutch retailer, UW GAME SPECIALIST, informed a customer about an order delay, saying five units of the RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC were recalled over fire concerns. MSI emphasized that these claims are entirely unfounded. They made it clear that no such recall is ongoing because these models do not pose any fire risk. They also stressed that this retailer isn’t part of MSI’s trusted network.
The company even hinted at potential legal action against those spreading misinformation that could damage MSI’s brand integrity. They reminded users to make purchases only through authorized dealers, listing suppliers such as Megekko, Azerty, and Coolblue, among others.
As things stand, NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 doesn’t warrant any concern regarding spontaneous combustion. If there was a legitimate fire risk, it would likely point towards issues like faulty power connectors. It’s worth noting that NVIDIA is currently dealing with several challenges surrounding the RTX 50 series, from supply chain hiccups to technical glitches like missing ROPs or screen blackouts.
For consumers, the take-home message is to proceed without worry about their GPUs going up in flames. MSI has firmly denied any such defect. However, users are still advised to exercise caution and ensure the correct installation of their powerful RTX Blackwell GPU.
