Studio Fizbin, the creative force behind Reignbreaker, is set to close its doors later this month. This news comes directly from a statement on their website, which was also picked up by Game Developer. The sad reality is that they will be shutting down after Reignbreaker launches on March 18th. Founder and CEO Alexander Pieper explained that a major factor in this decision was Thunderful’s move to significantly cut back on internal development.
Pieper expressed, “The times are indeed challenging for the gaming industry, and unfortunately, we are feeling the impact just like many other amazing studios in recent months.”
He went on to detail that back in November 2024, Thunderful, their parent company, decided to scale down its internal development efforts, a move echoed in the latest quarterly report by Thunderful’s CEO, Martin. This strategic shift affected Studio Fizbin directly. Since then, they’ve been on the lookout for new projects to dive into post-Reignbreaker. Regrettably, none of those prospects have panned out, leaving the studio with no choice but to make this tough call.
Pieper continued by expressing heartfelt gratitude: “We owe so much to every fan who showed their support through purchases, fan art, comments, and reviews. Your passion and support have been nothing short of extraordinary.”
He added thanks to their business partners and funding organizations, including Medienboard, MfG, Creative Europe, and federal funding bodies, acknowledging their invaluable support.
Lastly, he extended the deepest appreciation to the team, saying, “To those standing with us until the end, and to those who’ve moved on to new ventures—thank you. The essence of Fizbin and its games is rooted in the talent of our team members. You’ve turned this place into a hub of inspiration, pulling off the world’s most challenging magic trick: crafting memorable games.”
