The team working on Skyblivion, the ambitious project aiming to recreate The Elder Scrolls IV within Skyrim’s engine, has reached a significant milestone. They’ve completed the landscaping for all regions of Cyrodiil on their map. This achievement marks an important step towards their projected 2025 release, though there’s still a fair bit of work left to do.
Previously, the team shared their progress in an update video, showing that they were putting the final touches on the world map, with only the Nibenay region along Cyrodiil’s eastern border left unfinished at that time. Well, now, that’s sorted!
In a recent tweet, the developers confirmed, “With the Niben Basin and Valley complete, all of Cyrodiil’s landscape has had at least a first pass.” They’re planning to enhance these areas further, ensuring every part of the map meets high standards.
Despite this accomplishment, there remain tasks such as navmeshing—essential for smooth NPC movement—to finalize. They’re striving for an environment where characters move seamlessly, avoiding potential mishaps like endlessly looping around obstacles, a common scene in both vanilla Skyrim and Oblivion.
Beyond outdoor spaces, the team continues to focus on interiors. They’ve been prioritizing crucial locations tied to quests, which demand more intricate design and planning than your average interior. Currently, six quests haven’t even started on the work front.
Essentially, Skyblivion is a community-driven effort, and the developers are actively seeking volunteers with relevant skills to join them on this journey. If you’re interested, more details can be found on their official site.
