NVIDIA is facing a bit of turbulence with their mid-range RTX 50 GPUs as a chip shortage complicates the production process, making it a challenging time for Team Green.
The RTX 50 series GPUs from NVIDIA didn’t exactly hit the ground running, with some of the lowest stock quantities for their high-profile GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 cards. The intense global demand for semiconductors has played a large role in this supply hiccup, and unfortunately, there’s no immediate relief in sight.
Famous leaker Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that NVIDIA is expected to postpone the launch of its mid-range RTX 50 GPUs. This move is proposed to give the strained supply chain a bit of breathing room, pushing the release schedule about a month later than originally planned.
Ming-Chi Kuo highlighted these challenges, explaining that the mass production of the RTX 5070 and 5060 is likely to be pushed from February/March to March/April. This delay is due to the substantial chip supply bottleneck, which is driving up demand and leading to rapid sell-outs of the available inventory.
We already touched upon this topic earlier today with insights confirming Ming-Chi Kuo’s statement that the RTX 5070 is now set for an early March release. The core issue behind this delay is that NVIDIA cannot keep up with the current consumer demand, meaning new models will face similar availability challenges.
Over on social media, user Kakashiii111 analyzed the situation, noting that Taiwan—a major market for NVIDIA—received fewer than 100 RTX 5090 units. This scarcity mirrors what’s happening worldwide, with retailers reporting “single-digit” stock levels for NVIDIA’s high-end RTX Blackwell GPU. NVIDIA seems to be struggling to manage the supply and demand balance effectively, and it might take months before things stabilize.
In the meantime, a delay in releasing mid-range GPUs could allow NVIDIA to regain some attention from AMD’s RX 9070 series. If NVIDIA times it right, they might capture a bit of limelight, though right now AMD is well-placed to take advantage of the mainstream GPU market with their RX 9070 models, given the current sentiment toward NVIDIA.
