Prepare to see your hard-earned rankings take a back seat soon! Next week, Marvel Rivals is rolling out a midseason patch that’s set to reset competitive rankings. In a blog post, developers at NetEase revealed their new strategy: players will see their ranks reset twice each season—once at the start and once midway through.
NetEase explained their decision by stating, “After closely monitoring the dynamics of the game, we realized that players’ ranks in the first half of Season 1 offer the best snapshot of their competitive prowess during that period. Consequently, we’re implementing an additional rank reset to better align with the forthcoming updates and tweaks!”
Come February 21st, players can expect their ranks to dip by four divisions. Since each rank tier in Marvel Rivals comprises three divisions—with the minor exceptions of the top two tiers, Eternity and One Above All—if you find yourself sitting at Gold I, you’ll be bumped down to Silver II. For fresh season launches, the rank reset will knock you down by six divisions. However, NetEase is open to adjusting this if the competitive landscape turns chaotic as players scramble to find their proper ranks.
Data from RivalsTracker indicates that most competitive players fall within the Silver I to Gold III range. As a result, a significant chunk of the community will momentarily dip into bronze as they reclaim their positions.
For those aiming to snag the elusive Blood Shield Invisible Woman skin, you’ll need to reach Gold III by next Friday to secure it before the patch hits. Following the update, a new skin reward replaces the old one. Furthermore, players will now be required to complete 10 matches to earn it, ensuring even high-ranking players engage with the game to claim the reward.
This rank reset is expected to impact players differently, particularly given the “major balance adjustments” NetEase promises with the patch. While there are widespread complaints about healers being overly potent, others just wish for Moon Knight’s ultimate to function as intended. With the introduction of the Thing and Human Torch into matches, the gameplay dynamics are about to get even more interesting.
