EA and Maxis have a delightful surprise for fans of the classic Sims games as they celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Those long-rumored re-releases of the original Sims titles are indeed happening, and you can get your hands on them starting today.
There were whispers that EA would launch these games digitally for PC by the end of January – and true to form, they dropped them right on January 31, just squeezing it in before the final curtain of the month.
The re-releases, available through the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam, have been named The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. You can also grab both as part of the Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
In their announcement, EA shared, “To celebrate our legacy and honor the incredible fans that have been with us along the way, we’re re-releasing two fan-favorite titles that contain familiar neighborhoods and beloved characters – such as the sneaky burglar, unpredictable genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown – that started it all. Rediscover the nostalgia and magic of the classics that welcomed so many of you into our amazing community.”
Now, let’s talk prices and what’s packed in with these collections. The bundle is priced at $39.99, The Sims: Legacy Collection at $19.99, and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection at $29.99. Most of the original expansion packs make a comeback, although the Sims 2’s IKEA Home Stuff pack missed the cut.
While that’s disappointing, there’s still plenty included, like two holiday packs and the H&M Fashion Stuff pack to satisfy your branded content cravings. Plus, they’ve thrown in The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit with the first game and the Grunge Revival Kit with the second. So even if you’re fresh to The Sims 4, there’s a little treat waiting for you.
So why not take a break from lounging in the odd “meme jacuzzi” over at the quirky Sims Y2K website EA put together for the occasion? Dry off and dive into these beloved classics once more—you just might find the nostalgia irresistible.
