Shiftall, the innovative minds from Japan responsible for the MeganeX PC VR headsets, unveiled some exciting additions at CES 2025. They introduced two new VR controller accessories: a controller compatible with SteamVR for PC VR enthusiasts, and a distinctive add-on for Quest Touch controllers that offers a scroll wheel and extra buttons.
### GripVR
Shiftall is set to launch its own standard PC VR controller, named GripVR. It’s tailored for SteamVR Tracking systems (versions 1.0 and 2.0) and boasts a conventional button setup. Expect the familiar AB/XY buttons, pressable joysticks, triggers, and grips, all reportedly featuring capacitive touch sensors.
GripVR promises an impressive eight-hour battery life, and when it needs a recharge, you can do so via its USB Type-C port. As is the case with most SteamVR tracked accessories, it’s designed to be compatible with a range of SteamVR headsets, including the Valve Index, HTC Vive, and Shiftall’s ultra-lightweight MeganeX “8K”.
The launch of Shiftall’s GripVR is aimed for this summer, with prices expected to be between $299 and $399.
### AddCon
Shiftall has also rolled out AddCon, an intriguing aftermarket attachment for the left-hand Touch controllers of the Quest 3/3S/Pro. This gadget enhances your controller with a wheel and additional buttons, which are particularly useful for managing 2D UI elements and specific VRChat controls.
Interestingly, AddCon incorporates a shift function triggered by a capacitive sensor on the pinky finger rest. This allows users to switch between different command setups seamlessly.
Shiftall explains that AddCon is perfect for VR users seeking expanded control options for tasks like adjusting camera settings or handling avatar functions in VRChat. This controller add-on supports over 14 customizable inputs, which can be configured via a dedicated PC application. This app can also serve as an OSC command transmitter for standalone VRChat setups, according to Shiftall.
AddCon connects to the Quest system through Bluetooth LE or a GX6/GX2 dongle and charges via a USB Type-C port. Like GripVR, AddCon is targeting a summer 2025 release, with a pricing set at $69 for the individual left-hand Touch accessory.
This news follows last year’s unveiling of the newest MeganeX “8K” superlight PC VR headset, which is expected to ship in early 2025 at a cost of $1,899. The latest MeganeX is a SteamVR-compatible headset, known for its sleek design and lightweight build, featuring dual 4K high-resolution OLED panels.
It’s worth noting, as we reported with similar marketing assertions, that we’ve put the “8K” label of the MeganeX superlight in quotes. This is to clarify that the 8K designation doesn’t fully represent the headset’s specifications, which incorporate dual 3,552 × 3,840 OLED screens.
