We’ve got our list of the top Xbox games for 2024, and it once again highlights the allure of Game Pass, with several standout titles making the cut. Alongside major releases, the Game Preview titles also make a strong showing. But which game takes the crown this year? Let’s explore the top 100 Xbox games of 2024!
This year, Minecraft holds firm at the peak of the charts, judged by unique player numbers. It seems nothing can topple the behemoth that is Minecraft from its throne. With its enduring popularity and regular topping of weekly charts, it’s no shock it’s still the reigning champion.
Call of Duty shook things up, climbing from fourth last year to second place now. The key driver? Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launching directly onto Game Pass. This move propelled it to become a major hit and one of the year’s top ten Game Pass launches.
Keeping a steady hand at third is Fortnite, while Grand Theft Auto V slips to fourth. With GTA 6 on the horizon for 2025, it’s likely we’ll see GTA V climbing back up as excitement for its sequel builds.
Fifth place is claimed by the intriguing Palworld. Making a strong entrance, it managed to carve out a spot alongside giants like Minecraft and CoD. Launched into Game Preview early in the year, its unique "Pokémon with guns" premise, and some legal scuffles with the Pokémon company, kept it in the spotlight, helped along by several content updates.
Some notable games dropped out of the top ten, like Halo Infinite and Rocket League, while Starfield faced a plummet from fifth all the way to 21st. However, the lower tier saw fresh blood with titles like the now-delisted shooter XDefiant, which couldn’t maintain its player base throughout the year.
On the flip side, older games made surprising comebacks. Elden Ring, for instance, surged 23 places thanks to its massive Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. New titles such as Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl also made their debut, with glowing reviews from our own Tom.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, despite its late December launch, still managed to make the chart, even though its potential was constrained by the timing. Given its critical acclaim and player engagement, it might have ranked higher had it come out earlier. Tom shared high praise for this Indiana Jones installment; check out his review for more insights.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Game Pass addition propelled it from 82nd to 34th. Surprisingly, Assassin’s Creed Mirage missed the top 100. Plus, no new Assassin’s Creed release for 2024 means the franchise will have to wait its turn again, with AC Shadows delayed out of this year.
This year’s list is rich with new Game Pass additions and a smattering of past blockbusters like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which, after a late release, didn’t make last year’s cut. It’s refreshing to see charming indie games like Little Kitty, Big City making the list at 58th, thanks to its Game Pass exposure. Similarly, Another Crab’s Treasure lands at 77th, while Baldur’s Gate 3, a standout RPG, enters at 78th after its Xbox debut late last year.
