Virtual Reality’s beloved combat simulator, Blade & Sorcery, reached a milestone with its major 1.0 release in June 2024. But for those who think that might be the end of the road for Warpfrog, the studio proves us wrong by diving headfirst into its next exciting project. Promising to be just as actively customizable as its famous physics-based combat game, the upcoming title already has fans buzzing.
Though Warpfrog isn’t spilling all the details just yet, they did confirm to Road to VR that their next venture will also be a VR experience. As expected, it will carry the distinctive Warpfrog signature: immersive physics interactions and a strong focus on simulation elements.
Importantly, the studio has indicated that modding will remain a core feature. Just like Blade & Sorcery, the new game will offer extensive modding capabilities. Fans will remember how easy it was to tweak Blade & Sorcery, whether manually or through the Nexus Mod Manager. This tool streamlined the process, letting players add anything from extra sparks during weapon clashes to entirely new user-created maps and weapons, essentially reshaping their gaming adventures.
In a candid conversation with Meta last October, the team shared that they’re integrating a brand-new framework into their upcoming game. This comes after pushing the limits of their previous framework during Blade & Sorcery’s extensive period in early access. According to them, it’s time to clear up some of that “spaghetti code” and build something new, and they’re doing just that with the power of a fresh engine. This overhaul includes constructing a faster, more efficient framework tailored for a full development team. Yes, they’ve gone from a solo act led by the developer known as ‘KospY’ to a bustling team of nearly 30 talented individuals.
Blade & Sorcery demonstrated its evolution with the big 1.0 update, introducing the ‘Crystal Hunt’ story mode. Thanks to this major update, the game transformed from a visceral melee sandbox into an immersive adventure, complete with upgrade systems, narrative depth, and a more interconnected world.
Warpfrog’s latest update on Steam shares their excitement about what lies ahead: “With the journey we’ve been on for the last five years, we’re thrilled to unveil our next creation. Your support has fueled our drive to develop bigger and better games.” So, while Blade & Sorcery may have reached a new height, Warpfrog is just getting started. It’s clear their journey into the realm of VR gaming is far from over, and fans eagerly await the surprises they have in store.
