This year, indie publisher Reforged Studios has been on a buying spree, and their latest acquisition is Yellow Lab Games. While the financial details of the deal are under wraps, it’s clear that Yellow Lab Games will continue to operate on its own, as reported by GI.biz. They’re currently working on a roguelite RPG titled Metavoidal, which is set to make its debut on Steam in the first quarter of 2025.
This latest purchase follows Reforged’s acquisitions of Ground Shatter and Extra Mile Studios just last August. Peter Van Der Watt, the founder and CEO of Reforged, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Growing up in South Africa, I was always aware of the exceptional talent in game development present there. Yellow Lab Games caught my attention, especially after witnessing the positive buzz around Metavoidal, marking their entry into PC and console gaming.”
Since moving to Scotland in 2011 to establish his first gaming studio, Van Der Watt has been a vocal advocate for South African game development on the global stage. He added, “Today, the entire Reforged board shares my excitement about the potential of the region. When the chance came to welcome David Hecker and his team from Yellow Lab into our fold, there was no hesitation. We are thrilled to bring South Africa’s top gaming talent into the Reforged family and are optimistic that this marks the start of a broader commitment to investing in Africa’s emerging gaming industry.”
