EA Sports FC 25 has just rolled out a substantial update known as First Frost, and it’s packed with a slew of changes as we gear up for the holiday season. This update introduces some fresh elements and addresses player feedback from previous iterations.
EA is no stranger to releasing major updates around this time of year. In the past, they’ve made headlines with colorful features in EA Sports FC 24’s holiday update, showcasing wild red and blue characters. However, unless there’s a surprise in store, it seems like those quirky demo characters are taking a backseat this year.
EA’s blog post on the First Frost update highlights their commitment to addressing community feedback. The focus is on enhancing various aspects of the game while layering new strategy and personalization options onto the existing framework.
The update’s headline features include two new FC IQ player roles and several new strategies that will shake up existing roles. Players can now take on the “Classic 10” CAM role—a traditional attacking midfielder who becomes the focal point for offensive plays—or the “Wide Half” CDM position, a defensive player tasked with covering the field’s sides and aiding in building play.
Following the First Frost update, additional features will be released, including new Ultimate Team player items, the Max Tactics and Winter Match rules for UT friendlies, and two new celebrations inspired by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dusan Vlahović. A visually pleasing festive main menu theme rounds out the enhancements.
But there’s more. Many modes and general gameplay aspects have been adjusted based on player feedback. For instance, Rush matches in Ultimate Team have been shortened to five minutes. General improvements include enhanced defensive logic to fend off attacks from kickoff, quicker AI reactions to offside positions, and a reduction in the difficulty of performing certain skills, particularly for players with two-star skills. These tweaks aim to make gameplay more enjoyable.
Additionally, EA has mentioned plans to refine aspects like scoring from corners, first-time power shots, initial lobbed through passes, and jog dribbles in future updates. In Clubs and Career Mode, expect changes such as new double XP events and facilities for Clubs, and youth player development enhancements for Career Mode. It’s worth diving into the complete update notes if those modes pique your interest.
