The release of Hitman World of Assassination for PlayStation VR2 has been pushed back to next year. Initially, IO Interactive had plans to launch the Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy on PlayStation VR2 this December, following its announcement during September’s State of Play presentation. However, gamers will now have to wait until March 27, 2025. The studio explained that the delay will allow for additional refinement and the inclusion of new features like active manual reloading.
In a detailed post on the PlayStation Blog, IO Interactive addressed the postponement. The game was originally set for a December 2024 release, but now is scheduled for March of the following year. The team emphasized that this wasn’t an easy decision, acknowledging the excitement and demand for the PlayStation VR2 version of Hitman. They assured players that their main goal is to deliver an outstanding gaming experience. By extending the development timeline, they aim to fine-tune the game to meet high expectations, while also integrating some extra features they believe will enhance the experience.
This version of Hitman marks IO Interactive’s third venture into virtual reality, after previous adaptations for Quest and PC VR/PSVR. The upcoming launch will include all key levels from the rebooted trilogy, introducing features like dual-wielding and room-scale gameplay, accompanied by updated controls and innovative gameplay mechanics.
On PlayStation VR2, Hitman World of Assassination is set to unveil “positional interactions.” These require players to physically perform actions, adding a realistic touch to tasks like swiping a keycard or mixing a poison, replacing basic button presses. The developers have made it so that quest items remain tangible, letting you interact with them directly in your hand.
Set to release on March 27, 2025, Hitman World of Assassination will be available as a $10 paid upgrade for those who already own the flatscreen game on PS5.
