Anomaly, the latest release from the minds behind Swarm, is gearing up to hit Meta Quest in early December, and it’s shaping up to be quite an experience.
Crafted by Greensky Games, who brought us Swarm and its sequel, Swarm 2, Anomaly is set in a not-so-distant future—2050 to be precise. It throws players into a city left in ruins, stretched across three levels. Here, you’ll face not only enemy teams but also lurking monsters, all vying for the elusive Artifact. The stakes? Capture and extract successfully to claim victory.
Whether you prefer going it alone or teaming up with a couple of buddies, Anomaly offers flexibility. You can dive in solo or form a duo or trio to tackle the challenges that await. The essence of extraction shooters is maintained: defeat your opponents, battle through AI enemies, grab every bit of gear you can find, and make it out alive. Beware, though—if you fall, you lose everything you’ve gathered.
Peter Le Bek, the founder of Greensky Games, shared some insights, pointing out that Anomaly draws inspiration from beloved titles like Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown. He noted that Anomaly doesn’t just bring the action; it also cranks up the atmosphere and the adrenaline rush from making it out, emphasizing the visceral feeling of potential loss. It’s designed to make each match its own thrill ride, breathing new life into the VR realm and surpassing what traditional games can convey.
For those eager to get a head start, there’s a Closed Beta happening now, and you can sign up to join. Mark your calendars because Anomaly is set to debut on the Meta Quest Store by early December.
