Were you gearing up to catch Star Wars Skeleton Crew on Disney Plus on December 3? Well, brace yourself for a change in plans, as Disney has just shifted the premiere to a day earlier.
It looks like the entertainment giant has decided to treat Star Wars fans to this new series a bit sooner, with an announcement made just yesterday. Now airing on December 2, the show’s debut may have moved up by just a single day, a move that seems rather arbitrary unless you’re privy to Disney’s inner workings! Nevertheless, this early release comes with a bonus: the first two episodes will drop simultaneously. So, if the premiere has you hooked, you don’t have to endure much of a wait for the follow-up. Disney has also revealed the directors behind each of the eight episodes, featuring some quite familiar names.
Opening the series, we have Jon Watts, who brought us the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, and he’s also behind the eighth and final installment of Skeleton Crew. Directing episodes two and three is David Lowery, known for a diverse filmography ranging from last year’s “Peter Pan & Wendy” to more dramatic works like “The Green Knight” and “A Ghost Story.” The Daniels, who took the world by storm with their 2022 hit “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” are set to direct episode four. Meanwhile, Jake Schreier, soon-to-be-known for his Marvel film “Thunderbolts,” handles episode five.
Taking charge of episode six is Bryce Dallas Howard, a seasoned Star Wars director thanks to her work on The Mandalorian. Episode seven is directed by Lee Isaac Chuang, who also has Mando episodes under his belt, along with his role in directing one of this year’s major hits, “Twisters.”
Skeleton Crew’s intriguing plot centers around “the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet. They soon find themselves lost in an unfamiliar and perilous galaxy, embarking on an unexpected adventure as they strive to return home, meeting new allies and foes along the way.” Jude Law is slated to be the most recognizable face in the series, which promises to capture a Spielberg-esque adventure spirit.
