Valve isn’t jumping straight into a full-fledged successor for the Steam Deck just yet, but they are giving us something to look forward to—a special edition! Get ready for the launch of the limited edition Steam Deck OLED in a sleek white design.
This “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White” will match the current 1TB model when it comes to specs, but with a slight bump in cost, retailing at $679—which is $30 more than the usual price. You can get your hands on it starting next week, Monday, November 18.
Here’s a little bonus: not only does the Deck come in a fresh white and gray color scheme, but it also includes a matching white carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth to keep everything looking pristine.
Valve has been playing with colors before. Remember the smoky translucent shell of the Steam Deck OLED? It was a hit, despite some minor aesthetic cracking issues. This white edition promises to be just as popular, and it’ll be available in various regions including the US, Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, Japan, and more. They’re ensuring a fair distribution of stocks across these regions.
To prevent scalpers from snatching up all the units, Valve has introduced a new rule: only one white Steam Deck per account. Plus, you need to have at least one purchase on your Steam account made before November 2024.
Valve mentioned in a recent press release that they plan to use the feedback from this limited edition run to decide on future color releases: “We’re curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new color variants down the line.”
If you’re into personalizing your gadgets, you still have other options. Companies like Jsaux and dbrand offer different backplates and skins, but if you’re looking for that authentic white Deck experience directly from Valve, this is your chance before they’re all gone.
Looking ahead, Valve hinted at more for the Deck, stating that beyond just exploring color options and rolling out regular software updates, they’re also actively working on the future of Steam Deck and other hardware plans.
From the photos, I’m getting a mix of the Wii U and iPod vibes—in a good way! It’ll be interesting to see if this new color option will entice current owners to dive in for another purchase.
