We at io9 are thrilled to unveil an extremely cool new video that was shot on the set of the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular video game, Borderlands. Roth teamed up with the talented folks at Light Sail VR to capture some amazing on-set moments featuring stars like Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Ariana Greenblatt. While this footage is designed to shine in VR, rest assured, it’s equally impressive in 2D.
In a statement, Roth shared his excitement, saying, “I’ve been a VR enthusiast for years and have been shooting with a GoPro 360 since 2018. During the pandemic, I realized that set visits were off the table, so I wanted to bring fans as close to the action as possible. We’ve recreated the extraordinary world of Borderlands, and you get to see how much effort our brilliant art team in Budapest put into building these sets. You’ll find yourself right there with the actors, observing rehearsals and watching Cate Blanchett and Ariana Greenblatt as they perform thrilling stunts like running and jumping from a truck bed that’s toppling over. Collaborating with my friends at Light Sail VR helped craft an unparalleled experience that drags you into the heart of the action. It authentically captures the atmosphere of what it felt like on set, amidst the chaos of Borderlands.”
