Indie game platform itch.io has just unveiled its latest Creator Day, scheduled for November 29. According to Engadget, on this day, every dollar you spend on the site will go straight to the creators, as itch.io will waive its usual 10% fee.
This Creator Day coincides with itch.io’s big Autumn Sale, kicking off from November 27 and running through December 5. The sale draws on the talent of the vast developer community, who have contributed over 7,400 projects. These offerings range widely, including both digital and physical games, along with various resources for your own game development adventures.
Itch.io first launched Creator Day back in 2021, as a lifeline for developers hit hard by the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When the community stands by us every day, we wanted to dedicate a day to give something back,” explained Spencer Hayes, itch.io’s director of business and content, in an interview with Polygon at the event’s inception. “Times have been tough for many, and we felt compelled to assist in any way we could.”
Even under usual circumstances, itch.io’s revenue policy is one of the friendliest out there. By taking only 10% of sales typically, it’s a much better deal for developers compared to platforms like Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, and Apple’s App Store. With initiatives like Creator Day and its array of charity events, itch.io continues to set itself apart from the bigger names in the industry.
