When it comes to gaming monitors, Samsung is pulling ahead in the race with its cutting-edge QHD 500Hz QD-OLED panel. This new development is set to leave LG’s current 480Hz OLED panel trailing behind.
Samsung has always been at the forefront of electronic innovation, and they’re breaking new ground with this 500Hz panel designed specifically for gaming aficionados. What’s particularly noteworthy is the combination of a high refresh rate with QHD resolution, thanks to their Quantum Dot OLED technology. This promises sharper and more vibrant visuals, making it a standout choice for gamers.
According to ITHome, Samsung is almost ready to kick off mass production. This first-of-its-kind 500Hz panel for a 2560x1440p display is poised to debut in the market soon. Previously, such high refresh rates were only seen in 1080p panels, but Samsung is pushing the envelope by integrating this capability into a more detailed QHD resolution offering.
Samsung plans to start production early in 2025, gearing up to ship these panels to various monitor manufacturers. They are already in talks with clients to showcase the benefits of their innovative 500Hz panel, aiming to overtake LG’s 480Hz offering, which only just began mass production in August. With similar dimensions at 27 inches, Samsung’s version also incorporates a Quantum Dot layer. This enhancement boosts display quality by providing superior contrast and HDR capabilities.
However, there’s still a bit of mystery surrounding the pricing and availability specifics for gamers. Realistically, achieving 500 FPS at QHD is a tall order with current PC capabilities. Many gamers find reaching those frame rates challenging even at 1080p, especially in fast-paced eSports titles like CS and Valorant. The challenge intensifies at QHD, requiring top-tier hardware like a Ryzen 9800X3D paired with an RTX 4090. Although we’ve crafted guides for creating the fastest gaming PCs using X3D processors, pushing 500 FPS at high-ultra settings at QHD remains largely out of reach for now.
