If Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has you hooked, you’re in for a treat. There’s a Black Friday deal you shouldn’t miss over at Amazon and Best Buy. Dive into another exciting journey with Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince for only $30 on the Nintendo Switch. This is the best price we’ve seen for this turn-based, monster-collecting game.
On the topic of monster-themed spin-offs, Monster Hunter Stories Collection is also seeing a price drop over at Amazon. Grab your physical copy for Switch at just $40, down from $60.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince might have slipped under the radar when it launched exclusively on Switch last December. It’s a shame because fans have been waiting since 2011 for a DQM game to hit markets outside Japan. Before The Dark Prince, only Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker and Joker 2 made it to English-speaking audiences on the Nintendo DS.
This role-playing game bursts with depth and deserves way more limelight. You’ll enter the shoes of Psaro, the antagonist from Dragon Quest IV, but this time you’re at his origin. Cursed, unable to harm anything with monster blood, Psaro cleverly finds a workaround by controlling monsters to fight on his behalf. What unfolds is a captivating quest to capture and fuse monsters into even more formidable creatures.
With more than 500 monsters to recruit, battle, and aid you, the world of Nadiria opens up a staggering potential for exploration. The main adventure spans 40 to 50 hours, but if you’re a completionist aiming to see everything, you’re looking at over 100 hours of gameplay.
Although initially a Switch exclusive, The Dark Prince has since been ported to PC and Android. It’s a unique twist from the mainline Dragon Quest, and if you’re a fan of Pokemon-style games, snagging the game for 30 bucks is a no-brainer.
But The Dark Prince is just one star in Square Enix’s roster of enticing Black Friday deals. Nintendo Switch and PlayStation players can grab the recently-launched Final Fantasy I-VI Collection Anniversary Edition at a discounted rate. This collection features Pixel Remasters of the classic first six Final Fantasy games.
Fans of the HD-2D art style in Dragon Quest III should definitely check out the visually stunning Octopath Traveler II and Star Ocean: The Second Story R. The latter may not be pure HD-2D but captures a similar vibe.
If you’re a PS5 owner, there’s $30 off Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth at several retailers. Amazon sweetens the deal with a free DualSense controller skin. Final Fantasy 16, which leans more towards action than RPG, is also seeing price cuts.
Moving beyond just Square Enix titles, there are great discounts on JRPGs from other renowned studios. Atlus’ notable 2024 releases are on sale, including Metaphor: ReFantazio for PS5 and Xbox Series X, and Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance available across all major platforms. Not to be missed is the Steelbook Launch Edition of SMT V: Vengeance for just $25.
Check out these highlights among our favorite Black Friday RPG deals for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox lineup. Most links direct to Amazon, but in cases where the game is sold out there, we’ve provided alternatives from Best Buy or Walmart.
